Financial Assistance For College Education
Dr. Rick Addante delivered a keynote at the FACE Scholarship Gala in Palm Bay, sharing his journey and life advice to inspire students and the community.
He reflected on receiving a small $500 scholarship as a struggling 18-year-old—an opportunity that became the “seed” for a life-changing academic and professional journey, including work with NASA and a career in neuroscience. His core message: scholarships are seeds that must be grown and paid forward.
Coming from a difficult upbringing—raised in poverty, experiencing family separation, and overcoming major personal challenges—Dr. Addante emphasized that faith, family, and community support were just as important as education in shaping his success.
He encouraged students to:
- Use education as a tool, not just a goal
- Be proactive—seek help, build relationships, and take initiative
- Challenge themselves beyond their comfort zones
- Develop real critical thinking skills (not relying on shortcuts)
- Act with integrity, as life’s real tests go beyond the classroom
He stressed that while academic success matters, what education enables—like supporting family, serving others, and leading communities—matters more.

He closed by emphasizing that the most meaningful roles in life are not titles or degrees, but being a parent, leader, and contributor to others’ success, and honoring those who helped along the way.
